Date of Birth: 5 June 1943
Your club and the date you joined: Hawkstone Park on January 1st, 1956
Best competition score and when was it: A gross level par 72 in the first leg of the Hawkstone Park Masters in 1999 which, after the second leg, I won my Green Jacket awarded annually to the club member in recognition of Sandy Lyle’s win at Augusta in 1988!
Best shot you’ve ever hit and why: Any of my four iron tee shots for my holes in one and two five wood shots for eagles on the Hawkstone course (18th)
Your current handicap: 11.3
Your lowest ever handicap and when did you get down to it: 4 in 1971
The strongest part of your game and has that changed over time: My driving – which is not as long or as good as it used to be!
Your favourite other course and why: The Old Course at St Andrews on which I shot my first sub 80 round in 1961 – and, you have guessed it, there was little or no wind!
What is the best thing about golf now and the best thing about golf when you started? The best currently is the opportunity to play so many courses at a reasonable cost. The best when I started was the lack of traffic on the courses!
What do you put your longevity down to? Who knows?
