Portuguese International Ladies Amateur move from England international
FORMAT: 72-hole stroke play
A strong finish to her second round saw England’s Lottie Woad surge into contention at the Portuguese International Ladies Amateur Championship at Montado today.
The Surrey-based teenager closed to within three shots of the halfway leaders after playing her final eight holes in four under par. That included a run of three birdies, starting at the fifth (Lottie started her round on the tenth).
Three players share the lead on five under par – Portugal’s Sofia Barroso, Italy’s Francesca Florellini and Germany’s Helen Briem – and the top 40 after tomorrow’s third round will contest the final 18 on Saturday.
Lottie is one of 12 British players taking part but it wasn’t the best of days overall. Amateur champion Louise Duncan had a nightmare start. A seven at the first sent her tumbling down the leaderboard and she closed with a six over par 78 to drop down to joint 29th.
Somerset’s Davina Xanh moved above the Curtis Cup star on the back of a second-round 75 and is in joint 25th – nine shots back on four over.
