Intrepid quartet ready for 72 holes in a day at Horsforth Golf Club
GOLFNEWS24: Sunday, June 19th
After weeks of hard training and plenty of begging friends and family for money, golfnews24’s four-man team tackle Macmillan Cancer Support’s Longest Day Golf Challenge next week.
Led by golfnews24.co.uk managing editor Mark Flanagan, the four intrepid golfers will play 72 holes at Horsforth GC in North Leeds on Thursday (June 23rd). They begin at 5am while their second round is booked in for 8.36am, their third round will start at 1pm and the final round at 5.08pm. In total they will be playing golf for 14 hours and walking in the region of 20 miles.
Mark, who will be joined on the epic quest by brother-in-law Jonathan Levitt and friends Chris Mills and Ryan Fisher, was so thankful that so many people had donated and also that Ryan came in as late replacement earlier this month.
“The support has been incredible and at the time of writing we were on £1,133,” said Mark.

“But Macmillan is such a fantastic organisation. From speaking to relatives about their experiences of the charity, it just makes you realise how extensive and important its work is. Everyone has a story to tell about how MacmIllan helped them cope when it came to looking after people at the end of their lives.”
The four players will play a fourball betterball match with Chris and Jonathan taking on Mark and Ryan.
Mark added: “It’s not every day you play 72 holes in a day and I hope we take full advantage. It would be pretty cool if one team could come from something like 17 down to win on the last.
“It will also help us keep to the schedule. We only have three and a half hours for the first round so can’t hang about. Thankfully Horsforth Golf Club is in great condition and is nice and compact so that will help immensely. I am sure that will contribute to us playing some good golf… now and then.”
