It’s been a quite a year for amateur golf in Great Britain and we asked some our leading players what were their stand-out moments and also asked them to look ahead to 2024
1) Your best round of the year and why?
My best round of the year was four under in the second round of English Mixed U-18s. I hit some really solid approaches and holed some good putts which allowed me to safely make the cut. My other -4 was in the first round of the Roehampton Gold Cup, where I went on to win the amateur title for the second year in a row.
2) Your best shot of the year and why?
My best shot of the year was at the English U-16s. This was one of the tournaments where I struggled most with my tee shots. On the final day, on the fifth hole, I hit my driver left into the rough of another hole, from there I faded a six iron through a very tight gap between the trees from about 150-160 yards and it finished about 8-10 feet away.
3) The best shot you saw and why?
There were so many good ones but I couldn’t possibly narrow it down!
4) Your favourite moment of 2023 (this could be personal or something completely random but golf related)?
My favourite moment of 2023 was representing England at the European Young Masters in Slovakia.
5) Your hopes and ambitions for 2024?
My hopes and ambitions for 2024 are to win an important national or international event, and represent England in major team events. I want my game, scoring and top finishes to be more consistent.
6) One thing you would change about about golf for next season?
My tee shots are definitely something I want to change for next season. They were a really big setback for me this year. However, my recovery and short game massively improved due to having to fight back from difficult situations regularly.
