1) How many events will you be attending in your role as President?
I will have a busy time as I will be attending all county competitions and matches over the next two years. I will also helping with slope rating when time permits and dealing with handicap questions.
2) Thing you are most looking forward to about being The President?
To watch the county teams especially and the emergence of our juniors into the men’s team after their success of last year in winning the England Golf County Finals.
3) Favourite ‘other’ course in your county?
Far too many courses to be able to say that one is a favourite – from small nine-hole courses to the large championship courses.
4) Best round of golf you have played in your county?
When I was Captain at Close House we held a special event to raise funds for Newcastle University’s sports teams (at time Close House was owned by Newcastle University). As Captain of the club I was first out and hit the first shot. The first hole is a par three measuring 154 yards and I managed to hole it for a one! I also had a decent score on the day.
5) Is there anything slightly unusual that you will have to do as President of the Northumberland Union?
I will have to lead two teams of executive members in hard fought matches against executives from the Durham Union and Lothians Golf Association. Both matches have trophies at stake and have been played for more than 40 years.
