It’s been a quite a year for amateur golf in Great Britain and we asked some our leading players what were their stand-out moments and also asked them to look ahead to 2022
‘To hit it so close and wrap up my game and the tournament for Gloucestershire was really nice’
1) Your best round of the year and why?
That was my -9 in the final round of Gloucestershire County Championship at the Players Club. I was six behind starting the last round so didn’t really expect to win!
2) Your best shot of the year and why?
Playing for Gloucestershire, I hit a great cutting rescue from 250 yards into the second at Remedy Oak at the English County Finals to 20 feet. It just looked great with the backdrop of the hole.
3) The best shot you saw and why?
The best shot I saw was probably the one I just mentioned at Remedy Oak on 18th. To hit it so close and wrap up my game and the tournament for Gloucestershire was really nice.
4) Your favourite moment of 2021 (this could be personal or something completely random but golf related)?
Winning another Gloucestershire Order of Merit. I was a fair way behind in the rankings but won the last three events to shoot through and win it quite comfortably.
5) Your hopes and ambitions for 2022?
My seasons never change as I play the same tournaments each time although I do hope to try and compete in Open Qualifying again though as I haven’t tried for a few years.
6) One thing you would change about about golf for next season?
Divots in fairways!! Change the rule. It can be agreed among playing partners just as you would other rules. If you hit the fairway you deserve a decent lie!
