It’s been a busy week for Sadie Wilyman but she had just enough left in the tank to claim her third Yorkshire Challenge Bowl at Oakdale yesterday.
The Otley stalwart’s eighth round in six days was the final against Jenny Kim (Leeds) and the hard-fought contest ended at 18th. The former Bothwell Castle member was one up playing the last and had the comfort of knowing she had two for it from six feet to claim the impressive trophy.
Sadie, who moved to West Yorkshire from Lanarkshire in 1994, previously won the competition at her home club in 2006 and then again four years later at Forest Park. It is open to members of the YLCGA with handicap indexes between 7.5 and 28.4.
In the semi-finals, Sadie took on reigning champion Lynn Wood (Oakdale) and another close-fought encounter ended 2&1.
The previous afternoon the three-time champion beat past winner Enid Spencer (Leeds) 3&1 in the quarter-finals and earlier in the day she opened the knockout stages with a one-hole success over the Oakdale Club President Penny Baxter.
Sadie qualified for the matchplay phase in 11th thanks to a nett 75. Elizabeth Knox (Hallamshire) and Louise Eardley (Oakdale) finished joint top on a two under par 70 with the top 16 making it through.
