World Junior Girls Championship trip beckons for Sophia Fullbrook, Ellise Rymer and Maggie Whitehead
Three of England’s leading juniors will get to represent their country in the World Junior Girls Championship in Canada next month (October 10-15).
Hertfordshire’s Sophia Fullbrook, Lincolnshire’s Ellise Rymer and Northumberland’s Maggie Whitehead have been selected to take part in an event which has not been played since 2019 due to Covid-related travel restricts.
Close House ace Whitehead, who was part of the England team that retained the Home Nations title earlier this month at Ballyliffin, has already accumulated years of international experience and has another solid year, including a seventh placed finished in the European Young Masters in Finland. She also was part of the GB&I team that tackled Continental Europe in the Junior Vagliano Trophy.
She said: “I’m really excited and grateful to have been selected by England Golf to compete in this amazing event and to travel to Canada for the very first time.
“I’m sure its going to be another brilliant experience for me, after what has been a challenging year of juggling GCSE exams and competitive golf.”
Fullbrook has enjoyed more of a breakthrough year, culminating in a sensational victory in the England Girls. On the final day she shot a 10-under 62 to win having started the fourth round ten shots back. She also won the Bridget Jackson Bowl after a closing 67 (-6) and was the leading girl at the England Mixed U-18s.
Fullbrook and Rymer played together in the foursomes in the England Girls/Boys team that won the Home Internationals at Downfield in August and the Lincolnshire star has been hugely consistent all year, finishing fifth at the English Girls and also reaching the quarter-finals of the English Amateur and British Girls.
England will be one of 17 countries taking part – Wales have also entered – although defending champions South Korea are not one of them.
