Today the publishers of golfnews24.co.uk are delighted to launch a new invitational competition for club champions in the North West of England and North Wales.
The North West Club Champions Invitational (CCI) is a free-to-play, invitation-only event open to the male and female club champions of golf clubs in Lancashire, Cheshire, Cumbria, The Isle of Man and North Wales (Gywnedd/Clywd/Powys).
It is a 18-hole scratch stroke play event with men and women competing on equal terms. All must have won their respective club championships in 2022.

Hurlston Hall near Ormskirk is hosting it on July 10th, 2023 with the winner earning a place in the prestigious North West PGA Masters later in the week. Also played at Hurlston Hall, that is a 54-hole PGA event that has invitation-only spaces available for a small number of amateur golfers.
Golfnews24.co.uk Managing Editor Mark Flanagan: “Winning a club championship is a significant achievement for any amateur golfer and we wanted to create an event which gave them a nice added bonus.
“The North West Club Champions Invitational is also going to be a test event because the plan is to make the competition national in 2024 with six regional finals and then a national final.
“We are also very fortunate to have the competition taking place at the start of Hurlston Hall’s showpiece week of the year. The huge Pro-Am and North West Masters that will follow straight after the CCI are a huge deal for the club and they really put on a show with scoreboards and marquees erected all over the course.
“That will all be in place for us to use and the winner is in for a treat. Only the best amateurs in the area get invited to play in one of the biggest PGA tournaments of the season.
“And the course will be set up to test the best pros in the North West.”
Those wish to enter must me approved by their respective club secretaries/managers and that can be done by emailing [email protected] or filling out the form here.
Competition organisers will also ensure male and female club champions play off ‘level terms’ in compliance with the 15% distance differential convention.
There will also be equipment prizes for those finishing second, third and fourth.
Mark added: “Hurlston Hall are very keen on the fact this is an event where men and women can compete against each other. Essentially the men will play off the blue tees and the women off the reds but some of the tees will be tweaked to ensure the difference differential is exactly 15%.
“This is the direction the game is taking. We have seen mixed pro events where women more than hold their own. Recently Hannah Green and Linn Grant have won in mixed fields and we are delighted to be part of this gradual shift.”
