Four of Britain’s leading golfers have been selected for the Arnold Palmer Cup international team.
England regulars Caley McGinty (Knowle), Lottie Woad (Farnham) and Charlotte Heath (Huddersfield) will be joined by R&A Student Tour Series selection Lorna McClymont for the annual match-up at Laurel Valley in Pennsylvania (June 8-10).
The English trio will be making their debut in the event, which started in 1997 and sees two 24-player teams do battle – USA-born students versus a rest-of-the-world side. Last year ‘the internationals’ won 33-27 in Switzerland.
Heath, who attends Florida State, made it in via the international team rankings after an excellent last six weeks. The World No 17 finished second at the Valspar Augusta International last month and fifth at the ACC Women’s Golf Championship two weeks ago.
McGinty (Ohio) and Woad (Florida State) were picked by the International team committee but the latter in particular was a shoe-in after a superb freshman year.
Woad, who has risen to 26 in the WAGR rankings, has picked up six top five finishes and gained her maiden collegiate win last month in the Florida State Match Up. Gloucestershire star McGinty is two places below her England team-mate in the rankings after another solid season.
McClymont, who attends Stirling and has once again been the dominant force in British Universities golf this season, was part of the winning team last year, securing a point on her second appearance. She also played in 2019.
Overall the USA team leads the series 13-12 while the 1998 meeting was tied.
