It turned into a trophy-laden weekend for West Herts golfer Zach Little, who won all three competitions connected to the Hertfordshire Bowl.
FORMAT: 72-hole stroke play
The 72-hole strokeplay is made up up of the Hertfordshire Stag at Moor Park on Saturday and then the King George V Coronation Challenge Cup at Porters Park 24 hours later. The 17-year-old won the former by a shot from Leicestershire’s Richard Wale then followed it up with a play-off victory in the latter over Arran Kanth (Moor Park).
Overall the West Herts player edged out Kanth by two shots for the WAGR-ranked Bowl while Wale (The Leicestershire) was six shots further back in third.
Little, who in 2021 was fourth at the McEvoy Trophy (he was also the leading boy) and fifth at the inaugural England U-18s at Farnham, was a model of consistency as he plotted his way to a seven-under-par final total.
“I hit a lot of fairways and a lot of greens,” said the Hertfordshire county player. “And I also managed to hole a few putts.”
In the four-round event, he started the final round four clear of Kanth but made an impressive start, birdieing the first and then rolling in a 20-footer for birdie at the third.
Two more birdies followed at the eighth and 13th and an exceptional up and down at 16 maintained his momentum coming down the stretch.
The Challenge Cup play-off lasted three holes, with a bogey proving enough at the third for Little while the teenager edged out Wale by a shot to take home the Stag Trophy a day earlier.
