Iconic Buckinghamshire club Stoke Park will shortly close for two years for a major refurbishment just a month after being acquired by new owners.
The move comes in the wake of Indian businessman Mukesh Ambani’s £57m purchase of the club which famously appeared in the 1964 James Bond film Goldfinger.
More than 2,500 members have been told the club will close on August 2nd and reopen in the summer of 2023, sparking fears it will shut for business permanently.
A statement from the new owners said: “Reliance Industries Limited are making a major investment into the estate and are committed to preserving Stoke Park’s rich heritages.”
Members fear the legendary clubhouse will be converted into a private residence for Ambani. The complex is made up of 27 holes, hotel rooms/spa and tennis courts.
