It’s been a quite a year for amateur golf in Great Britain and we asked some our leading players what were their stand-out moments and also asked them to look ahead to 2022
‘I hit a six iron onto the slope right of the hole and fed it down to two feet’
1) Your best round of the year and why?
My best round was at Woodhall Spa (Hotchkin course) in the first round of the English Boys Champion of Champions trophy. I shot a three under par 70 and of all my main competition rounds this year it contained the least number of mistakes. These have cost me greatly this season.
2) Your best shot of the year and why?
That came during my first round at the McGregor (England U-16s). At the par three eighth hole, which is 195 yards long, I hit a six iron onto the slope right of the hole and fed it down to two feet.
3) The best shot you saw and why?
The best shot I saw was at Alwoodley in the second round of the Yorkshire Amateur. My playing partner George Mason drove the green on the par four second hole and he converted a 40-foot putt for eagle.
4) Your favourite moment of 2021 (this could be personal or something completely random but golf related)?
That was definitely winning the Champion Of Champions at Woodhall Spa.
5) Your hopes and ambitions for 2022?
My hopes and ambitions for 2022 are to win more tournaments than this year.
6) One thing you would change about about golf for next season?
I really can’t think of anything major.
