Portuguese International Ladies Amateur final day
FORMAT: 72-hole strokeplay
A strong finish from Lottie Woad saw the Surrey teenager finish fourth at the Portuguese International Ladies Amateur Championship at Montado yesterday.
The event attracted some of the best players in Europe and the England Girls international carded a two-under-par 70 to jump six places on the final day. Italy’s Francesca Fiorllini, who took the lead in the third round and was never seriously challenged during the final 18, eventually finishing three shots clear of the field.
For Woad (Farnham), a fast start was required if she was going to force her way into contention and she did just that with birdies at two, three and four.
However bogeys at 12 and 15 ended her challenge. A birdie at 16 and two closing pars left her on three under for the tournament.
Nine shots back was England Girls champion Patience Rhodes (Burnham & Berrow), who again eased herself up the leaderboard with a level par 72. She finished in joint 16th while Amateur champion Louise Duncan closed on 10 over after a closing 75.
