It’s been a quite a year for amateur golf in Great Britain and we asked some our leading players what were their stand-out moments and also asked them to look ahead to 2022
‘This helped me win my match and help England win, as well as being able to personally contribute six out of six points’
1) Your best round of the year and why?
Shooting two rounds of 68 (-6) during the final 36 holes on a tough course at The English Women’s Strokeplay Championship at Wallasey. This helped me move up the leaderboard and finish fifth after a poor start.
2) Your best shot of the year and why?
Driving the third green at Woodhall Spa (Bracken course) to 15 feet (our 12th hole as we started on the 10th) during my singles matches against Scotland during The Home Internationals. This helped me win my match and help England win, as well as being able to personally contribute six out of six points.
3) The best shot you saw and why?
Watching the winning putt of the Solheim Cup on TV as Europe beat such as strong US side. It was holed by Matilda Castren from Finland. She attended Florida State University, which is where I’m going to college next August.
4) Your favourite moment of 2021 (this could be personal or something completely random but golf related)?
Winning the The Welsh Ladies Open Amateur Championship by three shots at Newport GC. It’s nice for my name to join Dame Laura Davies’ name on the trophy.
5) Your hopes and ambitions for 2022?
To be in contention at major tournaments nationally and internationally, giving myself opportunities to win. And to help England win gold at The European Team Championship.
6) One thing you would change about about golf for next season?
I hope the new mixed events that were introduced keep going, as it was great to play/challenge ourselves against the boys. I was runner-up in two such tournaments this year – the England U-18s Championship and the Peter McEvoy Trophy.
