Four-time US Women’s Mid-Amateur champion Meghan Stasi has been named captain of the 2024 USA Curtis Cup team.
The Florida native was a member of the successful 2008 US side that won the Curtis Cup in St Andrews and she will lead her country against GB&I at Sunningdale next Summer.
John Bodenhamer, the USGA’s chief championships officer, said: “Meghan is one of the top amateur players of her generation, and her impact on the women’s amateur game is substantial.
“It was clear to us that Meghan becoming captain of our USA Team was a matter of when, not if, and we’re thrilled she has agreed to take on the role in 2024.”
Stasi’s four US Women’s Mid-Amateur titles are tied for the most in the championship’s 35-year history. She won back-to-back titles in 2006 at Old Waverly Golf Club and 2007 at Desert Forest Golf Club in Arizona, before winning again in 2010 at Wichita (Kansas) and 2012 at Briggs Ranch GC in San Antonio, Texas.
“My experience in 2008 with the Curtis Cup team was incredibly meaningful and rewarding; being asked to fill the role of captain is humbling,” said Stasi.
“I’ve had the opportunity to attend the match and be around the teams the last two years in Wales and at Merion, and the level of talent and poise these amateur golfers have is inspiring and infectious to be around.
“I can’t wait to begin this journey and most of all, be part of the USA Team again.”
The 2022 Curtis Cup – how it all happened
Last year she became the youngest individual ever inducted into the Florida State Golf Association (FSGA) Hall of Fame. To date, she has won 17 FSGA titles, including two Florida Women’s Amateurs and five Florida Women’s Mid-Amateurs. Stasi is an eight-time FSGA Player of the Year.
Following graduation, Stasi became an assistant coach and then head women’s golf coach at the University of Mississippi. At the time, it made her the youngest Division I head coach in any sport at the age of 23 and she guided the programme for six seasons, leading Ole Miss to two NCAA Tournament berths.
The US side came out on top in the 2022 Curtis Cup Match at Merion Golf Club to record its third straight victory and out of the 42 playing, has won 31 of them
