Andrew Heswall’s return to form gathered pace in Cheshire on Saturday as the Ormskirk teenager broke the course record on his way to winning the Eaton Talbot.
FORMAT: 36-hole stroke play
Earlier this Summer the 19-year-old was struggling just to take the club away as a psychological issue threatened to overwhelm his game.
However he has got over that problem in some style and, following hot on the heels of his victory in the Revidge Cannon at Blackburn last week, the Lancashire player won by four shots thanks to a stand-out 11-under-par total.
After opening with a 68, Haswell blazed a trail in the afternoon, posting a record-breaking 65 (-7), which was two better than the previous course record, which had been jointly held by Matt Robinson and Sandiway’s Chris Harrison. Both men shot 67 in 2013.
That score was also matched by 16-year-old Eaton member Todd McKie in the morning round and the two-handicapper followed it up with an excellent 70 to finish second, seven shots ahead of third-placed Callum Brown (Brignorth).
Haswell’s victory took him to within 36 points of overall leader Jack Brooks (The Mere) with six golfnews24 Northern Order of Merit events remaining.
