England A player Arron Edwards-Hill put in a dominant display in claiming the prestigious Burnham & Berrow Silver Salver on Sunday.
The Essex golfer finished nine shots ahead of Launceston GC’s Richard Jasper and home clubber Phil White, who had a hole in one at the 12th during an opening 68.
Edwards-Hill was the only one of the 63 entrants to finish under par (-7) thanks to rounds of 65 and 68. He had six birdies in morning, including three twos and just a solitary bogey at the at the par four second.
“Funnily enough I didn’t play that well in the opening nine,” said the 21-year-old. “I holed a few putts for birdies but my pars were scrambling efforts. That said my iron play was pretty solid and that was reflected in the fact I got three twos.”
At halfway the Chelmsford GC star was two ahead of Exeter’s Jack Pope, who had seven birdies during an eventful morning round.
After lunch, with the wind stronger than it had been, Pope fell away while Edwards-Hill maintained his impressive form, which culminated with a superb eagle on the par five 13th.
