It’s been a quite a year for amateur golf in Great Britain and we asked some our leading players what were their stand-out moments and also asked them to look ahead to 2022
‘In the States you see scores of 24 under winning three and four-round competitions while over here if you shoot level par your name is near the top of the leaderboard’
1) Your best round of the year and why?
That would probably be my second round at the Midlands 10 Counties Final playing for Warwickshire. I shot 66 in the morning and in the individual rankings was three back after the first round and then managed to shoot 65 to finish top and Warwickshire also qualified for the English county finals.
2) Your best shot of the year and why?
I chipped in at the Boys Home Internationals against Scotland. Playing with Jenson Forrester, we were four down at the time to Cameron Adam and Connor Graham and that gave us some momentum.
3) The best shot you saw and why?
That happened just at the weekend at the Irish Amateur. The par three 12th is a hole where you basically lose your ball if you miss the green. On the second day mine and my playing partners’ scores on that hole were seven, six and five and we had to let the group behind through. The wind was howling and David Kitt hits his tee shot to a foot. It was just ridiculous.
4) Your favourite moment of 2021 (this could be personal or something completely random but golf related)?
Playing in and winning the Home Internationals. The whole week was enjoyable. The lads there were a good bunch and it was a really good experience.
5) Your hopes and ambitions for 2022?
Representing England again in the Home Internationals, getting national and international wins under my belt so I can get my name up there ahead of the 2023 Walker Cup
6) One thing you would change about about golf for next season?
The way courses are set up for big competitions and they are always on the same type of courses. In the States you see scores of 24 under winning three and four-round competitions while over here if you shoot level par your name is near the top of the leaderboard.
