Enmore Park’s Hannah Woodley claimed her fifth Somerset County Championship in seven years with a dramatic play-off victory over Burnham & Berrow youngster Harriet Lockley.
The two players finished on one over par at Bath GC in the Covid-shortened Somerset Ladies County Golf Association event which attracted 43 entrants. The format was cut to just 18 holes of strokeplay from the established strokeplay/matchplay format.
In the four-hole play-off Hannah took a one-shot lead into the final hole and drove into a bunker before hitting a stunning wedge shot to six feet and Harriet could not find the necessary birdie.

Hannah said: “I think people were a little bit surprised I took out my driver because it brought the bunker into play but when I got there I had a good lie and made a good connection. And, as they say, if you have two for it take them so I did.”
The Enmore player birdied the first extra hole thanks to another stunning approach which finished just three feet from the pin. That put her one ahead, a lead she never lost as both players bogeyed their next hole (the 8th) and then parred 17 and 18.
Earlier in the day, Harriet and Hannah played together and it was nip an tuck all the way while Mendip Spring’s Davina Xanh finished third, three shots back and fourth placed Patience Rhodes also carded a four over par 78, fighting back well after a slow start.
