South East U-18s League follows on back of EG South East qualifier victory
A remarkable comeback victory for Boughton’s Tom Paterson ensured Kent beat Essex to claim the South East U-18s League title in dramatic fashion at Betchworth Park.
FORMAT: team matchplay round-robin
As both counties won easily against Bedfordshire in the triangular format, Essex pushed their title rivals all the way and looked set to make it 4-4 with game five looking especially good. Colne Valley’s Charlie Rushbridge was four up with seven to play having won four of the opening five holes.

However Paterson won four holes in a row, starting at the 12th, to draw level with three holes left and then got up and down from 130 yards to close out the match and make it 5-3 at the Surrey venue.
It completes a special double for the county after their six-man boys team won the England Golf South qualifier at Hendon although they would not triumph in the final at Furness in August with Leicestershire winning a first national county title.
How they qualified for the final…
But the strength of the Kent Boys squad was again all to evident on Sunday as they took care of Bedfordshire 6-2 while also seeing off Essex.
At the top of the order Rochester & Cobham Park’s Luke Jenkins recorded emphatic victories (6&5/5&4) while Kings Hill ace Jake Antoun won his ties 7&6 and 3&2.
