Barclay Brown guaranteed himself an afternoon tee time in tomorrow’s third round of The 150th Open after a “great finish” saw him get to six under par.
The Hallamshire player, matching the 36-hole total of his club-mate Matt Fitzpatrick, was “over the moon” at recording a second-round 70 to back up his opening 68.
The 21-year-old made a shaky start – he bogeyed the second and the fourth – but birdied six of the remaining 14 holes to move into the top 20.

That included three of the last four holes and he is currently three clear of Italian Filippo Celli in the race for the Silver Medal.
Three superb approach shots in the closing stages turned a good round into an excellent one.
At 15, he came in from the fourth fairway and stuck it pin high before rolling in the birdie from 20 feet.
Then at the 16th he pulled his drive slightly into the rough and then skirted with the bunker at the front. Fortune certainly favoured the brave as he left himself just eight feet for birdie, knocking it in with considerable aplomb.
Then at the last, with the pin right at the front, he gave the packed stand plenty to get excited about as knocked his second to inside two yards and took full advantage.
