Open debutant Barclay Brown has been drawn in the second group out at The 150th Open, which starts at St Andrews on Thursday.
The 21-year-old Hallamshire player will tee off at 6.46am alongside New Zealand’s Ben Campbell and Thailand’s Sadom Kaewkanjana. All three players are appearing in their first Open.
Brown’s England team-mate Sam Bairstow, playing in his second successive Open, gets a bit more of a lie in. He starts his challenge at 11.47am alongside two more familiar names who have both won multiple times of the DP World Tour – South African Christiaan Bezuidenhout and Austrian Bernd Wiesberger, who has recently LIV Golf.
Just how did South Yorkshire become a hotbed for English golf?
Campbell made it in by finishing second at the Victoria Open in February while Kaewkanjana is appearing thanks to his victory in the Singapore Open in January.
In round two it will be Bairstow’s turn to be in the second group out (6.46am) while Brown will start his challenge to make the cut at 11.47am.
Both players earned the right to play at The 150th Open by finishing top of their respective Final Qualifying venues – Hollinwell (Brown) and St Annes Old Links (Bairstow).
Both were part of the six-man England team that finished fourth at the European Championship at Royal St George’s last week.
