Peter McEvoy Trophy to take place in traditional April spot
One of the most important junior events in the amateur golf calendar will once again be played for at the start of the season.
The Peter McEvoy Trophy has been won by some of the most famous British golfers and tradtionally was fought for in April.
However with Covid creating uncertainty last year and in 2021, the 72-hole stroke play tournament, which sees boys and girls play for the same prize, was moved to late summer.
However the organisers at Copt Heath have reverted to a spring date and this year’s event – the 42nd time it will have been held – takes place on April 13-14.

Tournament directior Ian Davidson said: “We are fortunate at Copt Heath to have a golf course which winters well with good drainage and are confident of presenting a course in excellent condition for that time of year.
“Of course the weather can always play a part but on balance the April date is one we are keen to maintain.”
Winners of The Peter McEvoy Trophy include Lee Westwood, Justin Rose and Peter Baker and in early September Kent’s Jack Lee added his name to that prestigious list with a four-shot victory over Isla McDonald-O’Brien (Shrewsbury).
Peter McEvoy remains arguably Britain’s finest amateur golfer of the last 50 years. He won back-to-back Amateur titles in 1977/78, playing in the Masters and The Open twice. On all three occasions he made the cut and finished 17th at Royal Lytham in 1979.
