Double hole-in-one at North Hants Golf Club
There was a good time to be had at North Hants Golf Club last night after three of its members got a hole-in-one yesterday – two of them coming on the eighth hole from members playing in the same group.
Tradition at the Hampshire club dictates that £100 is put behind the bar for every ace so with plenty to celebrate, there was plenty to celebrate with.
And pride of place goes to Brian Steele and Brian White, who both achieved the feat within seconds of each other.
The only bad news for the pair was the bunker front right of the green obscured the view and nobody in their fourball saw the balls go in.
For 11-handicapper Brian Steele it was his fourth hole in one and his second on the 122-yarder while for Brian White it was that extra-special moment – his very first.
Brian Steele said: “Brian (White) was first to go and he was quite excited as the ball rolled down from the top tier towards the flag. He started running up towards the hole.

“I went third and also hit a good one. It was funny because as we walked up, and the pin came into view, it looked like there was a ball right by the flag.”
The good news was the ball was in fact lodged between the flagstick and the side of the hole and, as they walked closer still, the ball actually dropped in as the pin moved slightly, possibly by a slight gust of wind.
Brian Steele added: “Your natural thought when you don’t see the balls on the green is you assume they have gone long but we went straight to the hole, after watching one drop in, and there they both were.”
For the other members of the group – Lee Harding and Allen Mortlock – their scores are best forgotten.
However when the quartet got back they discovered that another member, playing in the weekly Monday Stableford, had also achieved the feat at the 15th.
That meant £300 for the members to enjoy as they rehydrated in style after playing in 35-degree heat.
