Charley Hull partners Shires Junior Golf Tour winners at her own golf day
Three junior golfers enjoyed the thrill of playing a round with Charley Hull at the LPGA star’s own golf day.
George Herbert (Market Harborough), Edie Speirs (The Leicestershire) and Eva-Grace Parsons (Northampton) qualified for the Woburn experience courtesy of their efforts in The Shires Junior Golf Tour. The trio won their respective decisions last summer.
Hull is enjoying a great run of form and her third place in the opening LPGA Tour event of 2023 saw her rise to 13 in the world rankings.
She said: “I got involved with The Shires Junior Golf Tour because I thought it would be great fun to play alongside the juniors.
“The standard was good. They were just out there having fun and enjoying it. Hopefully they made some good memories.”
Parsons, who won the Bronze Division, said: “It was amazing. I was a little bit nervous to start off with, mainly because of the crowd and the fact that I was playing with a top professional. But she helped me a lot with that.”
Silver Section champion Speirs added: “I think it was a really good experience, playing a new course, alongside a Tour pro. Seeing her perspective was great. I thought it was going to be a good day, but it was even better how it turned out.”
Herbert, the gold category champion, said: “On every drive I just kept on trying to hit it harder and harder because I really wanted to outdrive her. It was Charley’s idea to move from the yellow tees to the white tees, and I outdrove her twice.”
“I’d never played Woburn before, but it was a lovely course to play. You can learn quite a bit from watching her play.”
A special feature on the Charley Hull Golf Day on The Shires Junior Golf Tour will be on the next Progress Junior Golf Podcast on Wednesday, February 15th (8-9pm).
