England Girls U-16s champion shoots four rounds in the 60s at Formby Ladies
Buckinghamshire’s Rosie Bee Kim claimed her third national age group title in 12 months thanks to a dominant display in the England Girls U-16s.
FORMAT: 72-hole stroke play
The 15-year-old won the England U-14s by eight shots 12 months ago and in October won the British Girls U-16s at Enville by two.
Again she was in a class of her own at Formby Ladies. Her 13 under total left her six shots clear of the Netherlands’ Lynn van der Slujis, who in turn was three ahead of Shrewsbury’s Isla Mcdonald-O’Brien and the Dane Johanna Axelsen.
A pair of 67s set the England Girls squad member on her way and she was delighted to have a collected another leg of the England junior set. Kim will have two more chances to win the England Girls (U-18s).
“I feel fantastic about the result,” she told England Golf.
“It means a lot. After taking the trophy in the U-14s event last year, to come back and take the big trophy is really good.”
Kim started yesterday’s final round just two clear of van der Slujis but went further ahead of her playing partner at the sixth where she registered a double bogey and the Dutch girl could only manage a treble.
The leader responded brilliantly to that uncharacteristic slip-up by birdieing four of the next six and another birdie at 14 left her six ahead.
Both members of the final group bogeyed the 17th but by then it was all about ‘by how many’ and the Bucks county player closed with a 69 to finish with four rounds in the 60s.
