It’s been a quite a year for amateur golf in Great Britain and we asked some our leading players what were their stand-out moments and also asked them to look ahead to 2024
1) Your best round of the year and why?
It would have to be another course record at The Mendip. Why? Because I held the previous course records:
• When the course was changed in 2019 with four new holes (four under)
• And five under on the covid course in 2020
I always said if I shot another course record I would have to beat it the year after and not land in hospital like my previous experience.
2) Your best shot of the year and why?
That has to be approach shot on 14 in the second round of The Somerset County Championship. The ball was above my feet andI had to rip a rescue from over 200 yards. That shot was my absolute nemesis as it beat me for so long because of my injuries. So to pull it off when I had to was just the best shot ever. I felt like I had finally won.
3) The best shot you saw and why?
I’ve seen so many. I believe holing out from anywhere is one the best shots to see. It means it was perfect for that moment in time. We all know how hard golf is to perfect. It’s never luck… it’s pure belief. I love these types of shots.
4) Your favourite moment of 2023 (this could be personal or something completely random but golf related)?
Becoming Ladies Captain for The Mendip Golf club, standing with eight trophies at the end of this season – with bigger & better wins than I have ever had before. The last time I lifted any silver trophies was four years ago! It’s so good to be back!!
5) Your hopes and ambitions for 2024?
Become a +4/5 player and to be selected for the England Golf training squad and lift an even bigger trophy.
6) One thing you would change about about golf for next season?
To give more back to me. To give back to my soul by focusing so hard on my golf, to work that much harder and to become even better.
