The newly-launched North West Club Champions Invitational already looks set to have an excellent field.
Launched last week, it is a free-to-play invitation-only event open to the 2022 male and female club champions of golf clubs in Lancashire, Cheshire, Cumbria, The Isle of Man and North Wales (Gywnedd/Clywd/Powys).
And since then entries have been flooding in. Those who qualify to enter the 18-hole scratch stroke play event, at Hurlston Hall on July 10th, can find out more details here.
The North West Club Champions Invitational – All you need to know
Already committed to playing are the likes of 2022 Cumbria champion Rob Spence (Furness) while 2021 Gerald Micklem Cup champion Peter Finch (Ashton-in-Makerfield) is also certain to be one to watch.
Event organisers Feast Of Sport Media Ltd (publishers of golfnews24) have been delighted with the early response. Places are limited with competitors going out in three-balls, starting at 8am. The last group will tee off at 12 noon.
Golfnews24 editor Mark Flanagan said: “Last year we got involved with The Northern Order of Merit so we know how much strength in depth there is in the North West.
“And the quality of entries so far has exceeded our expectations. We have just over 100 spaces available so I would recommend reigning club champions secure their places as soon as possible.”
Spence is a highly-regarded operator and last June won his county title by ten shots, thanks mainly to a remarkable second-round 64.
Meanwhile former pro Finch won the presitigious Mid-Am title twice in succession and came close to making it a hat-trick at Sunningdale this year.

The winner will earn a place in prestigious North West PGA Masters later in the week (July 12-14). Also played at Hurlston Hall, it is a 54-hole stroke play event that has invitation-only spaces available for a small number of amateur players.
